Force Code

I may have been a little quiet on the updates recently, but it's not for any lack of gaming. A short trip to hospital for some minor surgery gave me a little more playtime than normal as I recovered. So as well as finishing up the sublime The Last of Us, I've also been playing through the new Issue 7 content in The Secret World, discovering the delights of Cube World (more on that in a future post) and continuing my adventures in The Old Republic.

Hawkwyn, Brinneth, Dom'ino and Carinus get their Sith together

Lord Carinus is now level 40 and battling pirates and republic forces on the ice planet of Hoth. I've been exclusively playing with a full, regular group of friends, which makes a huge difference to the amount of fun I've been having. When the full group hasn't been around I've been messing round on my Jedi Knight instead.

The Sith Warrior storyline is really fun, probably my favourite of the one's I've played. I really liked the Smuggler story, but the Sith plot is much more epic in scope whilst retaining a rather fun sense of humour. My companion character, Jaesa Willsaam is hilariously arch and evil, like a cheesy version of Antony Hopkins in the Hannibal Lecter films.

Most recently we ran the Colicoid War Games flashpoint, one of the few cross factions flashpoints I haven't played before. It was a refreshing change from the normal tunnel dungeon run, with some novel mechanics and we died many, many times before managing to defeat it's challenges. Most of the deaths involved being thrown from high places or accidentally locking group members behind force fields just as a nasty mob arrived. I haven't laughed so much during an MMO session for a long time.

Playing as part of a regular group has really allowed us to learn each others abilities and skills. We have one of each class in the group (Sith Warrior, Sith Inquisitor, Imperial Agent and Bounty Hunter) and now work together so well we seem to be able to take on difficult content relatively easily. We've learnt different ways to synergise our abilities, for example, I often Force Push an enemy back into melee range of Hawkwyn, our Imp Agent when his Shiv skill is up and ready to use.

This mix also means we all get to see the storylines for each of the classes as we play (watching the Imperial Agent story is a lot of fun).

As we approach the endgame I'm looking forwards to enjoying the newer flashpoints which I never got a chance to play first time round, as well as finally getting to explore the expansion content. There has been quite a bit of content added since I first played the game (new flashpoints, new operations, HK-51 questline, new battlegrounds, Makeb, etc), so I still have plenty to occupy my time.

In the meantime here are a couple more screenshots taken during my adventures with the Force Soul Brothers.
