Becoming a Sith

I'd forgotten what a fun and solid MMO The Old Republic really is. I've really been enjoying my walk on the Dark Side, and Carinus, my Sith Warrior, has now completed all of the quest lines on Dromund Kass.

My enjoyment is, I'm sure, increased by the fact I'm playing with a regular group of friends, and also down to me re-subscribing to the game. The horrible free-to-play model is still an issue (yes, I know I keep banging on about it but it really annoys me). My wife recently reinstalled the game with the intention of joining our merry band, but all I heard for the first ten minutes were comments along the lines of "what, I can't even use that title I earned?", "they are seriously limiting me to that many hotbars?" and "how much! what a rip off!"....

Anyway, back to the good stuff...

The Sith Warrior storyline is really starting to kick in now and I'm really looking forwards to meeting and defeating the Jedi investigator I have been asked to hunt down. The only problem I have is that I can't get the image of Cartman screaming "respect my authority" every time I have to talk to Darth Baras.

Dromund Kass was an interesting place. The quests were a nice mix of action and politicking with plenty of opportunity to display Carinus' evil nature to the full. I especially enjoyed playing through the Heroic 4 quests, which offered much more of a challenge and resulted in a few comedy deaths. Riding your speeder over the lift on a massive drop into the middle of a group of heroic mobs is not recommended.

We also ran through the Hammer Station flashpoint (on level with only three players), and had paid dearly for our overconfidence by the third fight! Once we'd begun to get our tactics down things went much more smoothly however. I enjoyed it much more than I remember first time round, and managed to get hold of a great headpiece (it looks like Darth Malgus' mask and even changes my characters voice appropriately). I'm starting to feel like a real Sith now.

It's off to Balmora next. I remember Balmorra from my smuggler play-through, so I'm interested to see the story from the Empire's side.

In the meantime here are a few screenshots of Carinus Nightfyre the Merciless and crew in action.

  1. I've been falling behind on my 'Capacity' reading... sorry!

This is good stuff. SWToR is certainly a blast with friends :)
