A New Life

My posting schedule is still a little slow as I'm working hard on the redesign of the blog still, as well as playing The Old Republic most nights. Hopefully the frequency of posts will pick up again soon.

I've been continuing to run dailies with Merec, but I have spent most of the last few days playing my new alt, a Jedi-Knight named Loman-Kai. The class plays very differently to my Smuggler so far, but I'm really enjoying the visceral nature of the melee combat and the freedom of movement afforded by the lack of the cover mechanic.

It took me a little while to get the hang of the focus and the centering mechanic (I picked Sentinel as my Advanced Class), but the combat seems to be flowing quite well now, and at least at this early level (currently 14) combat seems to flow quickly and I feel powerful.

The Jedi Knight class story on Tython didn't grab me as much as the Smuggler's prologue, but since arriving on Coruscant it has started to pick up with the stolen files about the Planet Prison almost like a reverse plot to A New Hope. I'm looking forwards to seeing how this resolves itself, though the presence of a spy in the group (a fly in the soup?) seems quite obvious.

I'll be posting regular updates on my progress with Loman-Kai, along with the talent tree builds and rotations I use as I develop them. I'm also planning to spend quite a bit of my time with Loman-Kai levelling up via PvP and honing my PvP skills (I've already started building up my Valor Rank), so I daresay I'll be writing about that too at some point.

In other SWTOR news, Dulfy of Dulfy's Healing Corner has a really great write up of the presentation given by the developers at the MCM Expo in London. It includes a new video previewing the Adaptive Gear system as well as a few nice tidbits that I hadn't picked up on before.

Patch 1.3 will include some performance optimisations, the ability to link missions in chat, a 30% reduction in mod removal cost (I can't tell you how happy this makes me after recently spending over 150,000 credits removing mods from one piece of raid armour!), and possibly the first iteration of ranked warzones and rewards for neutral (grey) characters. Great stuff.

You can read the full write-up as well as a transcript of a Q&A with Associate Lead Designer Emmanuel Lusinchi here.

  1. Glad you are enjoying the Sentinel-JK. I LOVE playing Voltaan, although I don't play him that much since my playing partner quit. I must dust him off again.

It's funny you should compare the Smuggler storyline to the Jedi Knights. One of the reasons I created my Smuggler was the great write ups you did, but also because I wanted a 'fun' storyline. The JK one is very intense and you really do get the sense of the world resting on your shoulders. It's all very life and death for the universe, very serious. I love the storyline, but it can be a little intense.

Good luck on the redesign. I had a peek at your preview and was VERY impressed.

    1. Yeah it's a lot of fun so far, and the combat looks very cool :) I know what you mean about the story - it's nice they feel so different.
