What happens on Nar Shaddaa stays on Nar Shaddaa

Nar Shadda has offered a lot of fun, but it is now time for Merec to move on to the desert planet of Tatooine. I'll miss the bright lights and seedy underworld of Nar Shaddaa - as a smuggler I felt strangely at home there, and I don't think I've ever seen a zone quite like it before in an MMO.

Nar Shaddaa in all its glory

The smuggler class story continues to be fun, and I have managed to get my second companion character, a wookiee named Bowdaar. Having a big hairy wookiee following me around makes me feel like someone has got my back if I need help, and there have been a few occasions on the Hutt-controlled planet where I really have needed it!

There were a couple of stand out moments for me during the smuggler class quest. First of all there was the woman on the Hutts pleasure barge that Merec decided to have a fling with, and who then tracked him down to his starship hanger, confronted him there demanding to know why he hadn't been in touch, then pulled a blaster on him when he told her she meant nothing. I felt like a real scoundrel, but decided not to pick the dark-side option of killing her!

I think I upset her...

I did succumb to the dark-side once during my time on the planet, as the lure of shiny credits was too bright to ignore. I didn't fully realise the consequences of my decision to let a rogue scientist keep experimenting on some samples until it was too late, but by then the damage was done. He continued his torture of a young woman and the last two examples of the Shanjaru Beast species in the entire Galaxy were consigned to history as the main course of a Hutt's dinner party! My companion, Corso, had a real go at me (I lost quite a few affection points), and I actually felt really bad afterwards! I have now decided that Merec has realised there are more important things than credits (not many, but a few)!

Nar Shaddaa is the first planet where I really got the feeling of a large galactic cold war going on between the Republic and the Sith Empire and there are some other interesting quest lines on the planet outside of the class quest. I particularly liked the idea of the open jail, where the inmates wore explosive collars that detonated should they leave the precinct! A quest to infiltrate the maximum security wing to rescue a Jedi hero was a particular highlight, with a nice twist and follow up.

I manager to locate another three datacrons on the planet (again this was a lot of fun). One of them took my wife and I an hour to get to, even though we could plainly see it, but the feeling when we finally managed it was great. The other big discovery was that Merec finally managed to get hold of a speeder. The 90% movement rate bonus makes a real difference!

Ooo look! A datacron!

So, there's a quick rundown of Merec's adventures on Nar Shaddaa. Definitely a place for those who don't mind making a few credits at the expense of others!

In other SWTOR news the first content update, 1.1 Rise of the Rakghouls, has been delayed until tomorrow following the discovery of some big problems by the testing community. Hopefully it will hit before the weekend.

The biggest news regarding the game from a personal point of view however is that my bro, Adurj, and his wife have finally made it in game. So far they are both absolutely loving it, and it was a lot of fun to finally be able to group up with them last night to run a low level heroic quest. I'm looking forwards to many more!
