Holy cow! Where did that come from?!

I don't think anyone was expecting this news...

Clint Mansell will be scoring the soundtrack to Mass Effect 3!!!

Sorry, having a bit of a geek-gasm here!

I love the soundtracks to the first couple of Mass Effect games (I have them both on my ipod), and this does leave me asking what Jack Wall's involvement is going to be. But, if you are going to replace the awesome Jack Wall with someone who better than Clint Mansell?!

For those that aren't in the know Clint was lead singer with one of my favourite ever bands in the late eighties, called Pop Will Eat Itself. I must have seen them play live around 20 times back in the day. They were massively influential in their day and artists such as Trent Reznor and Perry Farrell have both credited PWEI as being huge influences on their early work. I still listen to them alot, and their music still stands out today. He was also born and brought up a few miles from where I was, and remains a huge fan of my footie team Wolverhampton Wanderers, so I've always been a keen follower of his career.

Since leaving the Poppies back in 1996 he has found a new career as a movie composer, and has created epic scores for films such as Pi, Black Swan, Smokin' Aces, Moon and The Fountain. His best know work is probably Lux Aeterna, the main theme to Requiem for a Dream, which is now heard in all kinds of places (the video for Lux is below).

Anyway, just wanted to share this news which for me at least is very exciting and completely unexpected! Another great reason to look forwards to ME3!

  1. Holy Crap! Memory lane! You remember when we were waiting for a Poppies gig to start at Wolves Civic Hall and were having a pint in the pub next door. Clint and the rest were in there getting drunk before thier gig. Don't recall. Didn't I offer to buy him a drink? Think we were a little wasted too.

  3. Aye...don't think I have been to a bad Poppies gig. Even if they were a little off sometimes, they always made up for it with enthusiasm and craziness!

  4. Huh, well that's a coincidence, I love Lux Aeterna, the first time I was consciously aware of it was when it was used in sYnced 2 (a counter strike source frag movie), a DnB version called Shadows (Unicorn Remix) by Unknown Error.

I also love the Mass Effect series, can't wait for ME3! The fact that Clint is composing for it makes me want it even more now.
