Hero of Kugup

Well, I completed my first proper raid in Everquest 2 for four years this week. Merecraft is still level-locked at 50 right now (there is just so much content to run through at level 50), so it was a perfect time to try the Spirits of the Lost raid in Cazic-Thule. This is an epic 4x raid (i.e. it is set up to require four full groups to complete), but we only had two groups.

The raid was incredibly well organised by Voltaan (props mate!). I don't know if it was the respect he had from the raid, or the fact that Acolytes of Valor are a generally well-rehearsed group, but it was so much smoother than the raids I used to run back in the day. Everyone actually did as they were told!

I'm sure that this is one of the reasons we were so successful, despite us being short on numbers. For example, I've been in any number of raids over the years where the leader has said that no-one should run past the tank, but very few where such instructions were adhered to for the entire duration. The raid was also run in a great spirit, and the killing was accompanied by much laughter along the way.

Voltaan got his just rewards when he won the Dragon Nail even after rolling a 1 out of 100 on the loot roll - I've never seen that before! I also managed to pick up a fabled pair of shoulders, and am now sporting my new title, Hero of Kugup. Overall it was a real blast, and I'm looking forwards to the next raid I can attend (probably when I hit around level 62).

Right, that's it for now. A brief update I know, but work has been real busy this week. Lots of early morning starts and driving for hundreds of miles through the pouring rain mean I don't get to spend much time in front of the pc in the evenings. Hopefully the situation will get better next week.

I'll sign off with the latest teaser for HBO's Game of Thrones. This is starting to look better and better and received really good reviews at the most recent press previews. I love the look of the Throne of Iron in this teaser - not a comfortable place to sit for many reasons.

  1. Thanks for the kind words! I think all do as they are told on my raids because I treat them with respect. I don't shout, jostle, hassle. They are friends along to have fun. Also, we have been raiding together for a long time and it's mostly down to when Killzum used to tank. He was one scary troll. I wouldn't dare go against his instructions ;) Grats on your shoulders and title!
