Most of my gaming time continues to be taken up by EQ2. Last night Brynnethe and I decided to track down and complete all the Night of the Dead (Halloween festival) quests, which was a lot of fun. Not sure my warden wants a hanging man in his house as a reward thought! I really enjoyed the new haunted mansion quest and the Hollow Hedge maze, neither of which I'd seen before.
Those of you who have read one of my earlier posts on The Old Republic will know that I am planning to play a Smuggler for my main on release. Well that's now changed. Maybe. No, definitely. Perhaps.
Why the second thoughts?
Well mainly due to some of the information Bioware released in this week's development blog. The focus of attention this week was the Imperial Agent, an espionage-focused sniper who works for the Sith Empire. There were a few things that grabbed my interest. First off the damn cool looking class video they released (see below). Calling down aerial bombardments on your enemies looks fun! Secondly the new ship (see second video below) also looks great.
The other thing which has caused me to sway towards considering playing the Imperial Agent is a small throwaway quote by the dev responsible for the Agent's class story.
Alexander Freed wrote, "Iain Banks, Special Circumstances, and Use of Weapons in particular are fine examples of what can be done with science-fiction espionage. (In fact, I'd say the relevant Culture novels--along with E.E. Smith's Lensmen series--are among the best space opera espionage I've read. But I probably shouldn't say that, because I'm sure I'm forgetting other obvious candidates.)".
Now I love Iain Banks with a passion. I have all his books and his SF Culture novels in particular are great fun as well as though-provoking slices of epic space opera. If Bioware are taking inspiration from Banks' Special Circumstances division for the Imperial Agent then that's me sold on them.
Anyway, there is plenty of time to decide. Smuggler or Agent... Have a look at the videos below and let me know what you think.
